Edward G. Robinson's classic portrayal of gangster Rico Bandella is considered the standard in the gangster genre. Rico and his childhood friend, Joe Massara (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.), are small-time hoods who head to the city to make their fortunes. Joe achieves stardom as a dancer in a nightclub, while Rico rises through the ranks of a powerful crime gang. When a betrayal sends Rico into hiding, the police close in on Rico’s criminal operations. Will this be the end of Rico? [1938, runtime: 102 min., not rated] |
