Watercolors
7:00 PM, Friday, May 15

WatercolorsWhen Danny, a gifted young artist, arrives at the opening of his first New York exhibition, his erotic paintings trigger memories of the subject of his paintings: Danny’s first love, Carter. Through a series of flashbacks, the story of the two young men and the struggle with their mutual attraction is revealed.

When Carter’s depression and self-denial led to suicide, Danny was left to cope with the tragedy of losing love at a young age. With the encouragement of three strong and very different women, Mrs. Martin, a free-spirited art teacher; his best friend Andy, a young girl with a severe physical impairment; and Miriam, a recovering alcoholic, Danny learned to use his talent at painting to transcend his grief.

But in the present, Danny’s successful art exhibit is in danger of causing the loss of his current lover, Allan, when jealousy causes Allan to demand that Danny never paint portraits of Carter again. [2008, Runtime: 108 min., Not rated]

Affinity
7:00 PM, Saturday, May 16

AffinityBased on a novel by award-winning British author Sarah Water, Affinity is a gothic love story full of mystery, suspense, and sensuality. When wealthy 19th-century socialite Margaret Prior’s beloved father dies, she tries to find purpose in her life by volunteering at a women's prison.

There she meets an inmate named Selina, a self proclaimed spirit medium with the ability to channel the dead. Selina claims to be guilty of the murder for which she was convicted, insisting a malevolent spirit is actually responsible. Margaret, finding herself drawn to Selina, begins to investigate this claim, over the objections of friends, family, and especially the head matron, who disapproves of the women’s increasingly close relationship.

Margaret begins to have supernatural experiences herself, making her more sympathetic to Selina’s claims, and to Selina as well. Soon, she finds herself filled with secret desires she never dreamed possible. [2008, Runtime: 94 min., Not rated]
