Julie & Julia is a humorous and uplifting biography that tells not one, but two true stories of two extraordinary women. The film adapts and combines Julia Child’s memoir, My Life in France, with Julie & Julia, Julie Powell’s record of her self-imposed challenge to cook all 524 recipes in Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking in one year while charting the progress in an online blog. Although the two women never met in life, separated by living in different eras and countries, their lives are intertwined in the film. Both women are searching for purpose in their lives, craving to do something worthwhile. Obstacles such as language barriers, chauvinism, and terrifying live lobsters cannot deter either woman. Ultimately, each discovers that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness, and butter, anything is possible. [2009, USA, Runtime: 123 min, Rated: PG-13] (trailer)
