For Film Society members, Dogfish really needs no introduction as they are completely entwined with the 13 year history of the Society. But for the uninitiated, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is the premiere craft brewery in Delaware and in our opinion, the best anywhere.

Founded by Sam and Mariah Calagione in 1995, Dogfish Head’s stellar product launched Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats in Rehoboth Beach…Delaware’s first brew pub. The brew’s popularity ignited the company’s enviable growth and the 2002 expansion to a brewery in Milton.

But apparently working 18 hours a day on their business left the Calagione’s with some spare time, because in 1998, Mariah was a member of original group that founded the Rehoboth Beach Film Society. In fact, Mariah was one of the first presidents of the Film Society all those years ago. Dogfish Head was a Sponsor of the first Film Festival and has supported this event for 13 years.

Today, we are extremely grateful for the Calagione’s love of independent film and sense of commitment to the community, both of which have greatly assisted the Film Society’s community outreach efforts.

In addition to Dogfish Head’s generous philanthropy as the Beverage Sponsor for the Film Festival and other events throughout the year, we would like to recognize the dedicated co-workers (and film lovers!) at Dogfish Head for their participation in many Film Society events over the years. These include:

• Mariah’s participation on the original Board of Directors and a term as President, as well as her ongoing feedback and advise since then

• The fine Dogfish Head co-workers who annually donate their time during the Festival — when they could be watching films — to tend bar in the Big Tent, as well as haul trash and recyclables

• The Dogfish Head sales reps who, over the years have not only hosted wildly popular tastings at the Festival, but who also cart donated beverages around for delivery to various other Film Society events throughout the year

• The Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats management and staff who have hosted many meetings, fundraisers and Festival seminars — including a breakfast seminar with film directors during the 10th Anniversary Film Festival; Advisory Committee meetings; Feed the Film Society fundraisers and most importantly, the founding members meetings

• The co-workers at the Dogfish Brewery in Milton who made the Film Society’s 2009 fundraiser a huge success with the showing of Beer Wars at Milton theater (where Sam gave an excellent talk), as well as a much-enjoyed tour of the brewery lead by Sam

We at the Rehoboth Beach Film Society are proud to be associated with the esteemed Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and all of the co-workers there who not only make their company a great success, but help make the Rehoboth Beach Film Society a success as well.
