Pat Romaine

If you’ve been attending Film Society events for a while, you probably know Pat Romaine. She is a long time Rehoboth Beach Film Society volunteer who is seen everywhere doing everything. Pat and her husband Paul started coming to Film Society events when they moved here 11 years ago. One of Pat’s first volunteer jobs was selling tickets at the Festival in 2002. Since then she has delivered flyers, assembled newsletters, and volunteered in various positions during the Festival. When the Society’s Film Library was created, Pat reviewed and wrote descriptions of films available for borrowing. Today she is still reviewing films by attending Festival Film Reviews, held each summer in the screening room at the Movies at Midway, as well as at South Coastal Library.

“Pat is always ready to assist with the Film Society’s numerous year round film programs”, says Film Society Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator, Wendi Dennis. “The Film Society can depend on her help to make events successful.”

Pat says, “I have enjoyed volunteering with the Film Society and the people who work there….a nice group of dedicated people who believe in the arts and independent film, and who work very hard getting those films out to the public. Working with the other volunteers is also a lot of fun.”

"Pat brings a wonderful level of enthusiasm to any task,” says Sue Early, Film Society Executive Director. “Enjoying the interaction is as important to her as completing the assignment. She is also Queen Crumb Cake Maker!

Prior to moving to Delaware, Pat was a Hospice volunteer for five years. “I continued Hospice volunteering for another five years once I moved here and I also volunteered with ReadAloud to help local school children one-on-one.

Regarding her personal life, Pat says, I’m married to my husband Paul for 44 years. We have two daughters who live in NJ and two "boys” (our cats, Tuxedo and Simba) who live here with us.” Pat has been taking piano lessons for the past three years, but says “I would not hold my breath for any concert dates in the near future!” She also enjoys reading, needlework and Sudoku, but says, “My real passion is volunteering with Southern Delaware Therapeutic and Recreational Horseback Riding (SDTRHR). Working with the Autistic and Special Needs community has been a joy. These children and adults climb on horses and smiles and laughter fill the air!”

Pat is probably as much reason for those smiles and laughter as delight with the horses. Pat has proven herself to be a phenomenal community doer and giver. Everyone on the staff and board are thrilled that the Film Society is one of the recipients of Pat’s dedication and hard work within the community. Thank you, Pat, for the passion and compassion you share with so many, including the Rehoboth Beach Film Society.
