GLENN C. BOWMAN ENDOWMENT FUND
The Film Society has been very fortunate to receive assistance from committed and generous individuals, including Glenn Bowman. Glenn was a Board member whose love of independent film was amazing. During the Film Society’s early years, Glenn chaired the Summer Film Review process, five days a week. He didn’t just turn the projector on, he previewed each film, researched additional information about each film, and prepared background summaries to make the screeners more aware of the film’s history. Once films were selected for the Festival, Glenn helped write descriptions for the event’s program. As a retired public school teacher, Glenn became the Film Society’s educator. During Glenn’s term on the Board, he assisted with many other projects and his input helped steer the Film Society’s course of growth.
Glenn’s untimely death in September of 2001 was a tremendous loss to the Film Society. But even with his passing, Glenn continued to give generously to this organization. As part of his estate, Glenn made a financial donation to the Film Society. The Film Society’s Board of Directors decided to establish the Glenn C. Bowman Endowment Fund in honor of Glen’s generosity. The fund is being managed by the Delaware Community Foundation which has a long history of managing endowment funds for not-for-profit organizations, individuals, and corporations throughout the state.
The Glenn C. Bowman Endowment Fund is used to support community participation initiatives, primarily outreach efforts which Glenn saw as part of the Film Society’s mission. Part of the Bowman Fund was used to support the creation of the Cinema Art Theater, a project that Glenn would think is a great outreach to the community.
The Film Society invites film enthusiasts, supporters of the Film Society, and friends of Glenn Bowman to make donations to the Glenn C. Bowman Endowment Fund. It is through donor generosity, and the future generosity of others, that the Film Society will be able to continue Glenn’s efforts to bring independent films to Delaware.

MORRIS AND ROSLYN FIERBERG STUDENT FILM AWARD
Morris and Roz Fierberg were actively involved in the development of the Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the award-winning Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival. During the Festival’s early years, their retail skills were instrumental in starting a Merchandise Booth. They also assisted with reviewing films, recruiting additional volunteers, and encouraging others to attend the Festival. Being quite resourceful, Roz and Morris persuaded two of their sons, Andy and Stephen, to participate by facilitating seminars, allowing their films to be exhibited, and conducting Q&A(s) after film screenings. The involvement of the Fierberg family is greatly appreciated.
The Morris and Roslyn Fierberg Student Film Award was established in 2004 in memory of Morris. The fund’s name was expanded to include Roz just prior to her passing in 2010. The purpose of this award program is to encourage student film production by acknowledging the outstanding work of a student film director. Full-time high school or undergraduate students from the United States are eligible to participate.
Each year a review panel consisting of (1) Fierberg family member or representative, a teacher or professional in the film production area or art field, and the Film Society’s Education/Outreach Coordinator screen each submission and rate the films on originality, execution, (technical proficiency in four areas) and overall quality. Award recipients are announced in October each year. The first place award is a $1,000 cash prize and the Honorable Mention award is a $250 gift card.

The Film Society invites film enthusiasts, supporters of the Film Society, and friends of Roz and Morris Fierberg to make donations to the Morris and Roslyn Fierberg Student Film Award. It is through donor generosity, and the future generosity of others, that the Film Society will be able to continue the Fierberg’s commitment to youth and the art of film making.

PLANNED GIVING – CHARITABLE BEQUEST
If you would like to leave a lasting gift to the Rehoboth Beach Film Society as part of your legacy, please consider issuing a charitable bequest. A charitable bequest is a gift made through a will. Charitable bequests are revocable, flexible, and can provide estate tax advantages. Bequests are often used to create a named fund in honor of an individual or family. The Bequest can be established to support a specific project that was favored by the donor or the use of the donation can be left to the discretion of the Film Society’s Board of Directors.
A bequest can be a gift of a specific sum or asset, a percentage of the estate, or the residual estate. You may designate a charity as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or a retirement plan, such as a qualified pension and profit-sharing plan 401(k) or Keogh plan, or individual retirement account. Many people have life insurance that has outlived its original purpose and a charity can be designated as the beneficiary.
An attorney can help you make a charitable bequest that fits into your overall estate plan. Often, a charitable bequest may be made in codicil (or as an addition to) your will. Staff at the Rehoboth Beach Film Society can work with you and your advisor.
If you are interested in making a charitable bequest to the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, please contact Sue Early (302-645-9095, ext 3.) All donations are tax deductible. Your support is appreciated.
