Become an Intern

  • The Film Society provides supervised intern opportunities for students and adults wanting to acquire work experience.

  • Intern hours: Monday – Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

  • Some evening or weekend hours may be requested.

  • The RBFS is very flexible about schedules. There is no specific weekly requirement.

  • Please note that Internships are unpaid positions.

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age or older to apply.


  • Update and build database files

  • Prepare various marketing strategies

  • Learn about daily operations, including but not limited to mailings, flyer or poster distribution, ticket sales, membership registration, etc.

  • Provide technical assistance with cataloguing and consolidating film inventory.

  • Assist with coordinating annual fundraising events.

  • Assist with special projects as appropriate

  • Assist with film screening process to determine entries for film festival


  • Windows Movie Maker

  • Digital Video Camcorder operation experience

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Publisher experience

  • High level of organization

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision

  • Detail oriented

  • Flexible and friendly

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Professional demeanor


  • Be one of the few to gain insight in how a film society and film festival operates

  • View cutting edge films and assist with the selection process for the fall Festival and other film events

  • Experience first-hand how the arts can have a positive and unique impact on a community

  • Build a resume in real world experience

  • Watch potential festival films with other film buffs; participate in lively post screening discussions and learn first-hand what makes a film memorable or award-worthy
